ABOUT OUR EDITOR/TEACHER:

Mr. Kenneth Fine joined the Goldsboro High School family in 2017 after a seventeen-year career in journalism that dates back to his senior year in high school at Durham Academy when, as part of a senior project, he was hired by the Durham Herald-Sun as a freelance journalist. His career at the Herald-Sun and Chapel Hill Herald continued during his college years, and in 2005, after graduating from North Carolina State University, he was hired by the Goldsboro News-Argus.

Mr. Fine spent a decade covering Goldsboro and Wayne County — completing, among other things, an embed in Afghanistan — before stepping down as the paper’s Associate Editor in 2015 to ultimately accept the News Editor post at INDY Week, a Durham-based publication that specializes in coverage of social justice issues.

Mr. Fine’s work has been honored by the North Carolina Press Association every year since 2006, and his final project before joining GHS as an English and Journalism teacher, a three-part investigation into North Carolina’s embattled industrial hog farms, has been re-published in Saveur Magazine and The Guardian and was recently awarded the 2018 Phil Reed Award for excellence in investigative environmental journalism, a Society of Professional Journalists Green Eyeshade Award for investigative journalism, and a Society for Environmental Journalist Award for outstanding in-depth reporting.
